If you have just moved into the Kettering area, one of your top priorities will be to find out where the main shopping areas are.
Letting agents Ashan Property can offer a wide selection of rooms to let in Kettering and our friendly, experienced staff are extremely knowledgeable about the town and the surrounding area. Here is our guide to the principal shopping areas of Kettering and its neighbouring towns.
The Big Names
Kettering is well served with shopping centres, both in the town centre and on the outskirts. Newlands shopping centre has many of the big chain stores, and it is very easy to get to as it lies in the heart of the town and many of the surrounding streets are pedestrianised. If you want to drive there, there are more than 300 car parking spaces on site.
Kettering Retail Park in Carina Road has plenty of the big chain stores and restaurants plus the town’s Odeon cinema nearby. The Stanier and Belgrave retail parks are both in Northfield Avenue, between the town centre and the A14, and have big-name electrical and sports stores, supermarkets and fast-food outlets.
Individual and Independent
If you are looking to buy something more unusual, then you should check out both Market Street and The Yards nearby.
This area, in the heart of Kettering’s Cultural Quarter, is home to a host of smaller, independent traders who sell their own fashions, jewellery, home furnishings and beauty products.
Markets and Specialist Events
Kettering High Street hosts a general market every Friday and Saturday. On Wednesdays a flea market, selling collectables and arts and crafts, operates in the town’s Meadow Road.
If you want a taste of local food and drink, then you should visit the town’s Foodie Friday market, held on the second Friday of each month, also in the High Street. Kettering also has its own annual Christmas market, with stalls selling plenty of festive fare. It is usually held on a Thursday in December to coincide with the town’s late-night shopping events.
Further Afield
The Willow Place shopping centre in nearby Corby has more than 150 shops, bars and restaurants. There is also a permanent indoor market in the town centre and an outdoor one every Fridays and Saturdays in the town’s Oasis Retail Park.
In Wellingborough, Nene Court Retail Park is home to smaller independent traders, while Swansgate Shopping Centre in Spring Lane has most of the big chain stores. A general market, including farmers’ produce, is held in the town’s Market Square and Pebble Lane on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and there is also a bric-a-brac market on Tuesdays.
Rothwell has a general market every Monday in the town centre, while Thrapston’s historic market, which has been running since 1205, currently operates every Tuesday in the High Street
