About Thrapston
Thrapston is a small town in Northamptonshire with a growing population of more than 6,000. Situated close to the junction of the A45, A14 and A605, it has some good road transport links and although the two former railway stations closed 50 years ago, the nearest railway station is less than 9 miles away in Kettering.
The village has a long history that dates back to the Middle Ages and in the 1200’s the town was awarded a market charter, which is still commemorated annually with the much celebrated charter fair.
It has been home to a few media and arts people past and present. Among the current big names who lived there are sports commentator John Hindhaugh and fashion photographer James Kenny.
If you are renting a house in Thrapston, you will find all the facilities you expect from a small town. Along with all the usual amenities, such as a post office, newsagents, general store, hairdressers, doctor’s surgeries, dental surgeries, banks and a vet’s surgery, you will also find restaurants, coffee shops, takeaways, and public houses. Both of the two high street pubs – The Fox Inn and the Kings Arms – serve food.
For those who are moving house with children, the good news is that there are two schools in the area: Thrapston Primary, for pupils aged 4-9 and King John Middle School for ages 9-13. Children aged 13 and above usually go on to Prince William School in Oundle which is a 15 minute drive away.
In addition to the schools, the town has as many as four churches: the Baptist Church on Huntingdon Road, the Methodist Church on Market Road, St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church on Sackville Street and the Grade II listed Parish Church on Oundle Road.
For sporting enthusiasts, The Nene Centre, managed by Northamptonshire Council, has a gym, health suite and swimming pool and offers various classes including kick boxing, karate, yoga, and Zumba.
